Silver Leaves

New in my Etsy Shop...Silver Leaves! Inspired by my Copper Leaf Earrings, I decided to make a pair in silver, and they turned out lovely!

New Website

I'm working on a new website at the moment. It's through Other People's Pixels, a great site for artists websites. I would love to think that I could learn CSS and build my own site in Dreamweaver, but the reality is that I don't have the time, energy, or brain capacity to learn coding right now. It probably won't be "complete" for a while, as I don't have the energy to add all my images, but go ahead, have a look and let me know what you think!!!

New in my Etsy Shop!

Did I mention?

This sweet ring found a new home recently. Color of Wings was part of my Paralucia spinifera project, which highlighted the endangered Bathurst Copper Butterfly, through a series of seven sculptural rings. Two more rings have found their way into a gallery as well (more on that later). Yay!

Friday Finds--Randy Pausch

I once had an extremely motivating lecturer who passed away suddenly of a heart attack about a month or two into the semester. He was teaching "post modernism", one of the hardest (in my humble opinion) art movements to wrap one's mind around ("if you think you understand it, you haven't got a clue"). I was heart broken when he passed away. It is a rare thing to meet people with the passion, energy, and intelligence of this man.

Today, I came across a post about Randy Pausch's passing today, and wanted to share. Please head over to THIS BLOG, and watch his last lecture. It's just over an hour, but well worth it.

My Heart Swoons.....

Just saw some pieces by Anna Lorich over at Found Object....they're amazing!!!

I am hopelessly attracted to art that pulls at my heart strings, and I always strive to make pieces that do the same for me as well as others.

Miranda Meilleur

I am absolutely in love with metalsmith Miranda Meilleur. I first discovered her work through this post on Design*Sponge (one of my all time faves). Meilleur is a Welsh artist who has exhibited widely through Great Britain and has been an artist in residence at Manchester City College.

What intrigues me most about Meilleur's work is the contrast between silver and steel, as well as the amazing patterns that the artist has pierced from the pieces. I have a strong love for raised silver, and find the pairing of raised silver bowls with pierced steel "saucers" to be extremely appealing and complementary. The pairing creates a relationship that is both strong, yet feminine, and it makes me wonder what the artist would have to say about her work.

Have a look at her Website for more information on the artist, her work, and exhibitions.

Marianne Anderson

I discovered Marianne Anderson originally through a post on Modish, and just recently saw a post about her work on Amy Tavern's blog.

Marianne's work is beautiful, dark, contrasting, and full of texture. I love her use of patina, paired with intriguing shapes and contrasting stones. These pieces are inspired by the history of adornment, and exhibit a contemporary aesthetic guided by her palette. Her work is for sale on her website.

I know I've slacked off with the blog posts recently...but I'm back :)

I discovered Fluke Collective through sub-studio design blog not too long ago, and love these pieces. Two of my favorites are The More The Merrier by Louise Campbell, an amazing set of candlesticks with many possibilities, and Barnacles by Plodes Studio, which are lovely wall decorations. I love the look of the folded metal, as well as the colors these artists use!

I finally figured out a necklace design for my flower shapes that I'm happy with! This beautiful necklace will soon be available in my Etsy shop. It is sterling silver with a small gold accent connecting the pendant to the chain.
