Friday Finds--Ruth Tomlinson

I came across Ruth Tomlinson via Amy Tavern's blog today. There are two reasons why her work intrigued me. First, because there are a lot of Tomlinson's in my family's history, and second, because her work is amazing.

Ruth Tomlinson currently resides in England, with a studio in London. Her work is inspired by nature and life cycles, and I love the use of different materials, such as porcelain, to create new forms and textures.

Zoe Newsome

I came across Zoe Newsome's work on NOTCOT recently, and have fallen in love. Her pieces are organic, textured, and intriguing.

Friday Finds!!!

Shadows by Sarah Graham

Amy Tavern has a wonderful blog, and I absolutely love her guest star friday posts. This week she featured Sarah Graham, who is an amazing artist with multiple talents.

Hearing Implements by April Wood

Megan Auman also posted about an interesting discussion regarding the latest edition of Metalsmith's Exhibition in Print. Apparently, there is some controversy, but that's what makes art so inspiring, right?

The Downside of Metalsmithing

The downside of metalsmithing and making jewelry, is that sometimes it doesn't work the way you think it will. For instance, last week, I made two wonderful commissions, and sent them off to their new homes. One broke en route, and the other was the wrong size. Things must be re-done and reconsidered. It can be frustrating, but mostly in the sense of "what did I do wrong?"

Luckily, being a metalsmith and designer has helped me become a fantastic problem solver, who often thinks "outside the box". I often surprise myself with knowledge and ideas that I didn't know I had stored inside me. Not only that, but innovations to new problems.

My Apologies

I'm sorry...I've been absent of late. Friday Finds will resume this coming week, and I have a lot more things to show as well, coming up.

I am currently working on 3 custom orders (yay!), which I will be able to show off soon.

Also, my new website is up and running...I need to add more photos, but that will have to wait until I have some more "down time" (meaning, time that I'm not running around, nannying, or physically making jewelry).

Enjoy your weekend!
